Jersey City is a major waterfront city in northeastern New Jersey, situated across the Hudson River from Lower Manhattan. Its skyline, historic neighbourhoods, parks, and extensive waterfront make it one of the most urban places in the state. Exchange Place and the Hudson River waterfront provide direct views of Manhattan, while the historic Downtown district contains brownstones, churches, restaurants, and independent businesses.

Dorrigo National Park lies on the escarpment of northern New South Wales, about an hour from Coffs Harbour, where subtropical rainforest covers steep valleys and high country. The park forms part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, protecting plant communities that preserve links to ancient forests. Its elevated position creates broad views toward the Bellinger Valley and the coast, while dense forest keeps many walking tracks cool and shaded.

Lake Toba is another of the island's spectacular sights - a remarkable volcanic crater set in the middle of northern Sumatra, 176km from Medan. The lake is huge (the largest in South-East Asia), occupying the caldera of a giant volcano that collapsed on itself after a massive eruption some 100,000 years ago.

Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories, set on the rocky northern shore of Great Slave Lake amid the forests and exposed Canadian Shield of the subarctic. The city developed around gold mining and later became the territorial centre for government, commerce, transportation, and northern services. Today, Yellowknife serves as a gateway to the wider Northwest Territories and the Canadian Arctic. Its location beneath the auroral oval makes the northern lights a defining feature.
